Sky's Christmas Corner - *Hohoho* Welcome and Giveaway!

Welcome to this year's Christmas special on Sky's Book Corner. Since it seems quite fitting I called it Sky's Christmas Corner.

I will post a mixture of guest posts and reviews for 25 days, so it's like a little Advent Calendar for you guys.
Every second day there will be a guest post from a lovely author or blogger friend. This year's theme is "The 12 Words of Christmas". All my guest bloggers picked a christmassy/festive word and wrote a blog post about it, hope you enjoy. Here is the schedule:

The reviews I will post is a selection of Christmas books I really wanted to read this year! Of course I wanted to read more, but that's always difficult as you guys know. Here is the full schedule of Sky's Christmas Corner:

So, I have 12 pople write about a Christmas word, to start "The Twelve Words of Christmas" I thought I'd share one myself, without including it into the feature, since it wouldn't be 12 anymore ;)

My word is Santa Claus. I picked this word, because Santa has a slightly different meaning for us. Santa doesn't bring us our presents, for that we have the "Christkind", so translated that would mean Christ child. It's like an angel flying into the window and leaving the presents under the tree.

Santa Claus is coming December 6th in Switzerland. He is called "Samichlaus" here and he doesn't come alone, he is accompanied by "Schmutzli" (a cuter noun form for dirty) and a donkey. Santa brings his big old book and reads from it. He tells the children what they have done well in the past year and what wasn't so good. If a child hasn't been good "Schmutzli" comes with his birch and "punishes" the child, he never actual does it, it's just to scare the children. The children have a little poem to make Santa happy and then they get oranges, nuts and gingerbread.

So that's what Santa is for us. I was always a little scared that he would say something bad about me ;) When I was older I found out who actually played Santa for me, which was funny and weird at the same time.

  5. Confused by your pictures because one looks like Santa and the other like the Dutch Sinterklaas. My guess is that your SamiChiaus is our Sinterklaas.
