Love Me Tinder – by Nicola May

Original Cover
My own copy

The blurb:

'Nicola May is a talent to watch' Milly Johnson

Dull security or risky freedom - which would you choose?

With her marriage in pieces, shy Cali Summers is faced with this decision and hits the world of fast love on an internet dating app.

Using room 102 in the hotel where she works as her dating 'lair', she opens herself up to a world of sex, lies, deception, as well as personal discovery and passionate love.

With a charming F1 engineer, a handsome army officer and her adulterous ex all on the scene, a predictable love match is far from on the cards.

My Opinion:

*Book provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*

I’d like to start with the title of this book: It fits perfectly, it’s clever and it’s catchy! It didn’t live up to me expectations though, but it’s still a great read.

The story follows Cali Summers, who sees her marriages in pieces and gets into the world of online dating. Well, what better app to use than Tinder?! She gets to know a lot of different men, different types of men and is not afraid to take the next step.

In the book we also get to know some of her friends, which was really refreshing, because they got their story shared as well.

I had difficulties warming up to Cali and that didn’t change throughout the book. I didn’t like the way she acted and behaved and some of her decisions I just couldn’t understand. I liked the secondary characters much more, like Annie, her best friend or Lou. They will make you laugh.

The story has a fantastic flow. It’s young, fresh, modern and trendy! Nicola May captured the setting vividly and created a funny and romantic story!

Always These Excuses

We hear excuses every single day, whether they are small or big, but there is always something weird behind them.

Most excuses I hear are from the kids at school, but mostly it’s their parents. „I have a headache” actually means “I don’t want to” or “I’m not in the mood”. Usually excuses are most common when it comes to bad grades or behaviour. I have had tests back full of comments and weird reasons for not participating in the lessons. I mean yes blackouts can happen, but do the parents want me to give the child another chance?! Things are unreadable, well something might be cut or it’s too dark, but looking at the board, where everything is explained is not an option, right!

I could list so many things here, but that would bore you and take too long. These kind of excuses happen in our everyday life as well, some people use them all the time, it’s their way to explain something that went wrong. However, isn’t it normal that mistakes happen and that we can’t be perfect?! So how about admitting your mistakes and being honest?! This is what will lead you somewhere in life.

In the end, when something happened, you can’t change it anymore and in most cases different reasons in an explanation don’t help. You need to perform and show results, if you can't (yet), don't be afraid to admit it! They only way to progress and move on is learning from mistakes, being honest, working hard and fighting for what you want. You take responsibility in your life and excuses just don't allow you to go the straight way. Yes, sometimes in life you might have to take a detours, but there is no need for excuses.

The Idea of You – by Amanda Prowse

Original Cover
My own copy

The blurb:

With her fortieth birthday approaching, Lucy Carpenter dares to hope that she finally has it all: a wonderful new husband, Jonah, a successful career and the chance of a precious baby of her own. Life couldn’t be more perfect.

But the reality of becoming parents proves much harder than Lucy and Jonah imagined. Jonah’s love and support is unquestioning, but as Lucy struggles with work and her own failing dreams, the strain on their marriage increases. Suddenly it feels like Lucy is close to losing everything…

Heart-wrenching and poignant, this latest work by bestselling author Amanda Prowse asks the question: what does it mean to be a mother in today’s hectic world? And what if it’s asking too much to want it all?

My Opinion:

*Book provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

Lucy Carpenter is happily married to Jonah; all they need to top their happiness is a baby. It’s not easy though, becoming parents is hard tough. Their journey through it is heart breaking and touching. From miscarriages to misunderstandings, there is everything.

On top of that there is Jonah’s teenage daughter Camille, who makes life for Lucy really difficult, until she confesses something to her. Lucy herself has another secret, all the flashbacks at the end of the chapters are connected to that. So this story also includes some mystery as well.

All this puts Lucy’s and Jonah’s relationship on a test and it all gets really emotional and touching. Amanda Prowse’s writing is sensitive and poignant. I really liked how the plot developed and it just flows beautifully.

Make sure you have a box of tissues close by, you need them.

The characters in this book are authentic and real and I really liked the mixture of them. Camille added another spark and even though I didn’t like her at the start, I really warmed up to her.

This is a complete page turner! The way Amanda Prowse includes these touching topics is incredible, another fantastic book by this author! This lady is SO TALENTED!
