Christmas Tree
by Maryline
When Simona
asked me to be a part of her Christmas special by writing a piece about a
Christmas word, I didn’t hesitate for a second. Not only do I love Simona, her
blog and everything Christmas, there was this one special word I really wanted
to write about: Christmas tree.
There’s
nothing that screams Christmas like a beautifully decorated tree does. From the
moment that tree goes up in the living room, the countdown to Christmas has
officially begun. It’s my absolute favourite time of the year so that tree
can’t go up soon enough. For as long as I can remember I helped my mum decorate
it every year. We had a few different colour options over the years, but the
red and gold theme is my favourite by far. It’s warm and inviting, just like the
holiday. It will come as no surprise that those are the colours I chose when I
put up my own tree in my flat.
Mum and I
were always in charge of the decorations. My brother usually helped us, while
my dad was in charge of putting up the tree in the first place, and adding the
lights. I always insisted on putting on a Christmas soundtrack, which was
usually the time my dad left us and the tree ;-) The past three Christmases I
put up my own tree, together with the love of my life, Thomas. He’s my hero for
many different reasons, but this time of the year he’s a hero for not only
excepting me, but my obsession with everything Christmas as well – including a
large tree. We bought a large one last year and picking out a tree with him was
incredibly special to me. We pick out the decorations with care and hang them
in the tree together. Accompanied, of course, by a Christmas soundtrack.
A Christmas
tree to me means family time. It means warmth and love, anticipation and
memories.
