My Sweet Revenge – by Jane Fallon

Original Cover
My own copy

The blurb:

I want to make my husband fall back in love with me.

Let me explain. This isn't an exercise in 1950s wifeydom. I haven't been reading articles in old women's magazines. 'Twenty ways to keep your man'. That couldn't be further from the truth.

I want him to fall back in love with me so that when I tell him to get the hell out of my life he'll care. He won't just think, 'Oh good'.

I want it to hurt.

Paula has had Robert's back since they got together as drama students. She gave up her dreams so he could make it. Now he's one of the nation's most popular actors. And Paula's just discovered he's having an affair.

She's going to remind Robert just what he's sacrificing. And then she's going to break his heart like he broke hers. It will be her greatest acting role ever.

Revenge is sweet. Isn't it?

My Opinion:

*Book provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

My Sweet Revenge is my first Jane Fallon read and I was really excited to start it. I don’t know why I haven’t read one of her previous books, because I fell in love with her style of writing immediately.

The story follows Paula who has been married to Robert for a long time, they also have a daughter together. Paula finds out that Robert is having an affair with has acting colleague Saskia. Paula is determined to to get her revenge. She wants to make him fall in love with her again. He should see what he misses out on. She even befriends Saskia and spends a lot of time with her and she tells Saskia’s husband Josh.

Throughout the story we learn a lot about their past, their jobs, their daughter and more. Paula also gains more self confidence while the story goes on and the more time she spends with Josh, the more attracted to him she gets.

Of course not everything goes according to the plan and there are a lot of twists and turns included. Some parts of the storyline and some decisions didn’t make sense for me. Things got dragged on a bit and the ending, although it’s very sweet was kind of weird to read about.

Jane Fallon totally made up for this with her writing though. Her style is funny, witty, engaging, but also bittersweet and deep. You can definitely lose yourself in this story!!!
