The music
for CHESS was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus,
the two men from ABBA. The lyrics are by Tim Rice, who has worked on a lot of musicals with Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Rice wanted to write a musical about the cold war for a while, but Mr Llyod
Webber didn’t have time, so luckily the two ABBA men did ;).

were members of the Swedish music group ABBA (1972-1982) & composers of the

Sir Timothy Miles Bindon "Tim" Rice (born 1944) is an English lyricist, best known for his
collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber, with whom he wrote Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita, for writing additional songs for the 2011 West End revival of The Wizard of Oz, and
for his work for Walt Disney Studios (e.g.
Aladdin, The Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King) and Ennio Morricone. Rice was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II
for services to music & has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
