I have lived in Switzerland my whole life, I
have explored lots of parts of my country and I have even spend some holidays
in certain areas, like the Ticino. In my cities there are not that many
tourists, but in the city, where I went to uni, there are a lot.
Maybe I should start with one thing: Switzerland
is not only about chocolate, watches and mountains. Sure we have lots of
mountains and they are beautiful, but there is lots more to my country.
Before you come here though, you need to know
that Switzerland is indeed expensive, especially when you come from another
country, but don’t let that put you down, there are ways around it: tourist
traps are known everywhere, so try to avoid them. Switzerland has a lot to
offer, especially when it comes to nature and outdoor activities. You can enjoy
a great day by the lake or in the mountains, for a small amount of money.
Now, let’s get to the reasons for visiting
Switzerland:
-
Switzerland is beautiful in every
season. We are
lucky and always experience all the season and they are all beautiful. In
autumn the tress look beautiful and when you’re above the fog, you can enjoy
some beautiful days. In winter we have lots of sun and everything just looks
beautifully white and sparkly. Spring is fab with all the flowers blossoming
and the birds singing. Last bit not least, we have summer. We get nice and warm
summers, great to enjoy the beautiful nature.
-
Beautiful scenery and nature. In Switzerland you can find lots
of lakes and mountains. The alps are very impressive, but we also have some
other mountains, where you can enjoy
great views and sunsets. These places offer a lot of outdoor activities
for summer, as well as winters. There are castles, vineyards, waterfalls,
forests, wide fields and much more.
-
Public transport is great. Trains, buses, trams etc. They are
always on time and you can travel through the whole country with them. Trains
are also a good way to say the landscape and nature. It’s also very convenient
to travel the rest of Europe.
-
We are a small country. You can get from east to west
within four hours and see a lot of things.
-
We have four official languages. German, French, Italian and
Romansh/Rhaeto-Romanic. A wonderful diversity.
-
The chocolate. We have lots of different
chocolate factories and each and every one of them is unique. It’s definitely
worth buying and trying a lot of chocolate and even visiting a factory.
-
The small cities/towns. We have two big cities in
Switzerland Zurich and Geneva, all the other cities are small, cute and they
still have a lot to offer. Zug for example has a lake, the mountains, shopping,
hockey and more. They same goes for cities like Lucerne, Bern, Basel, St.
Gallen or Aarau.
-
The food. Typical Swiss food is of course the Fondue
and Raclette, but also the Rösti with Bratwurst or the Zürcher Geschnetzeltes (slices
of tender veal smothered in a sauce made with white wine, cream, onions, and
mushrooms).
-
We have some great architecture. It varies from city to city, but it’s always very
unique and inviting.
-
Every city/town has an old town, where there are some very pretty buildings, a
brilliant atmosphere and a lot of history.
-
Switzerland is a very safe country.
So, if you decide to come, let me know, I’m happy to be your guide.
I've always wanted to visit Switzerland! Hopefully one day I will! :)
