The blurb:
1. Sleep under the starts
2. 2.Become an internationally renowed interior designer
3. Jump out of a plane
4. Find the man I’m going to marry ...
There are six months left of Emma Reiss’s twenties . . . and she has
some unfinished business.
Emma and her friends are about to turn thirty, and for Emma it’s a
defining moment. Defined, that is, by her having achieved none of the things
she’d imagined she would.
Her career is all wrong, her love life is a mess and that rambling
country house she pictured herself in simply never materialised.
Moreover, she’s never seen the Northern Lights, mastered the guitar,
jumped out of a plane or snogged anyone famous – just some of the aspirations
declared on a list the girls compiled fifteen years ago.
As an endless round of birthday parties sees Emma hurtle towards her own
thirtieth, she sets about addressing these issues. But, as she discovers with
hilarious consequences, some of them are trickier to achieve than she’d thought
…
My Opinion:
Four friends
and one list. Emma is determined to do the things on the list before her 30iest
birthday.
She asks her
ex-boyfriend to help her learn the guitar (she broke up with him, because he
proposed to her). It’s so funny to see how Emma trying to get her list done.
The writing is so hilarious, with a lot of LOL moments there.
The man she
thought she had a One-night-stand with, is moving in next door and he has a
family. How is that going to turn out? I was really keen on finding out.
Matt, her
neighbour, is the only one who doesn’t think the list is a stupid idea, which I
think is really sweet. He supports her and they spend a lot of time together.
She learns, that his wife is with another man now ...
Then Matt has
to go to work in Island and the Northern Lights happen to appear there. He
invites her and she takes the opportunity. The two of them get closer and there
is definitely an attraction there. I was surprised about her being so “crazy”
and her situation with men.
Something comes
between her and Matt’s future and this makes the story even more interesting. I
just didn’t know which way the book turned. The writing is so funny and
gripping. The choice of words is superb.
There is one
last gripping moment in the end, loved that one.
Emma and Matt
all the way!!!!! I liked them together from the beginning. This book is just
lough-out-loud funny!!! My first Jane Costello book and I fell in love with her
writing! A definite must-read.
