The journey is only as good as its
end…
It’s been a hard journey, but
Lizzie Lambert’s life is a Provençal dream come true. Her business is wildly
successful, and with her little boy and the love of her life, Cal, she is
making a beautiful home on the vineyard for their blended family.
But when Cal goes to America to
support his son through a teenage crisis, it becomes clear the kid’s not the
only one with some growing up to do: Cal’s glamorous ex-wife wants to get her
claws in him again. As Cal spends longer and longer away, Lizzie wonders, was
it all too good to be true?
Escape to Provence with Karen
Aldous’ The Riviera, the perfect read for an idyllic summer.
My Opinion:
*Book provided by the publisher in
exchange for an honest review*
When The Riviera was announced I felt like
a child getting Christmas and the birthday on the same day! I loved Lizzie’s and Cal’s story in The Vineyard and
was excited about having them back in this book.
Cal and Lizzie are really happy and their
relationship is full of passion and love. Cal has built up a great connection
to Lizzie’s son Thierry as well and they all make a super cute family. Just as
their plans for the future progress and they work on their perfect home, Cal
gets a mysterious message from hiss on Jack. Cal flies over to see hiss on
immediately and the problem is deeper than we all thought. Cal needs time with
his on and needs to help him. Of course this means not spending as much time
with Lizzie and his ex is back in the picture.
I loved seeing the relationship between Cal
and his own progress and also after deciding to spend some time with Lizzie and
Cal in Cannes, he opens up, is great with Thierry and is determined do achieve
something in his future.
Lizzie and Cal’s relationship struggles a
bit when misunderstandings and other things come together. On top oft hat they
both have to deal with other things as well: work, family, friends etc.
This book is full of surprises, which is
fab. There were things I thought would happen in that way, but I was surprised
with others.
The only thing that was a bit difficult
for me was the storyline. It’s hard to explain, but I felt that at times it
moved fast and then slowly again. It also took me a whole week to finish it.
Yes I was very busy and also tired, which probably made it harder for me to
really get into the story. It really is a shame, cause I think I would have
enjoyed the story even more (because it’s beautiful) and I would have seen
things that I missed now.
Karen’s writing includes everything –
love, passion, memorable moments, friendship, family, beautiful descriptions
and amazing characters. The setting is so romantic and magical and I always
felt like I was actually there with the characters.
Rating:
Karen Aldous enjoys village life on the edge of the north-downs in Kent with easy access to the buzz of London. Not only does she love the passive pleasures of reading and writing, she also craves the more active pursuits with her family and friends such as walking, cycling and skiing especially when they involve food and wine!
Karen gets much of her inspiration from her travels and if she had to choose, France, Greece, Switzerland, Italy and Lake Tahoe in US would be her favourites. However, wherever she goes, she discovers a new character emerges in 'Karen's World'. She likes to write about strong independent women who can direct their own lives - but struggle to control them! And, of course there's always a gorgeous hunk or two!
