What they say: 'What if you found yourself stranded at the altar, knee-deep in your absent fiancé’s gambling debts? Vicki Marchant, humble art teacher and jilted bride, seizes her freedom by leaving teaching to paint – in France. It’s her time. Nobody is going to get in the way of her ambition – definitely not a man. Vicki learns two things: some men are difficult to resist, and choosing the right one is not always easy.'       Click Here To Buy This Book - UK Click Here To Buy This Book - US
Choosing my heroes
Guest Post by Rosie Dean
Choosing heroes for my novels is very difficult.
NOT!
Come on – there are so many scrummy guys to choose from, it’s sometimes harder to decide who not to pick.
Although, in fairness, there has to be something about the real man which lends itself appropriately to the character I have in mind. For example, in Vicki’s Work of Heart, I wanted a French man. Hmm…let me see…
I’m rather partial to a well-toned rugby player, and there are a few of those on the French team – Maxime Médard for example. And that’s not even taking into account the Dieux du Stade (Gods of the Stadium) calendars – which, for the non-initiated, feature nude and semi-nude photographs of members of Stade Français, a Paris-based rugby team.
(Will someone open a window, please, and let some air in?)
However, when I started writing the book, back in 2007, Jean Christophe Novelli was very much on TV and fuelling my imagination. He had the accent, the intensity and the looks. What’s more, it amused me to know I was sending Vicki over to France to cook for him. My hero, that is. So I pinched his middle name and JCN became my inspiration for Christophe Dubois.
Imagine how gob-smacked I was when, in 2009, Jean-Christophe announced his engagement to Michelle Kennedy…an art teacher.
GASP!
In case I ever get stuck for a hero, I have a PowerPoint presentation dedicated to potential talent. I just checked, it has 51 slides, each with pictures of desirable Mr Rights. Slide 1 starts with Alexis Georgoulis and 51 shows Gerard Butler. Why not pick a number between 2 and 50, and I’ll let you know who you get?!

RosieQuote       Author Bio: I’ve been writing stories since I was a little girl, when I was especially industrious and produced dolly-dressing books, complete with a typed story, a dolly to cut out on the back cover, and paper clothing with tabs on. I even sold a couple. After growing up, I studied ceramic design – gaining a ‘degree in crockery’ as the man-in-my-life likes to call it, which I once put to good use as an Art & Pottery teacher. Deciding I didn’t want to spend my entire life in the classroom, covered in clay and paint, I escaped to the world of corporate communication, where I wrote training courses and marketing copy. Now I’ve given it all up to write, full-time. When not writing, I love to cook and to read, I even read in the car (talking books) and have notched up countless unnecessary miles as a result. Not one to spend hours in the gym or pounding the pavement, I prefer Yoga and Pilates, which means I can tone and tighten whilst watching TV.

    1. Holy Scotsman! I'd imagine Hugh Jackman would look mighty fine in a kilt. Damn near perfect, I'd say.

      Thanks for playing, Lizzie.
