Why I Still Live at Home

Yes, I’m in my mid twenties now and I’m closer to 30 than to 20, so why do I still live at home with my parents. I’ve actually had a lot of people ask me that, especially since I started working full time.

When I was in uni, nobody was interested in this question, because it was obvious: I don’t earn enough money with my students jobs and I didn’t want my parents help. I always said that if there is a possibility to move out, I will. I actually always wanted to move out and get away from my village, down to the city. I never wanted to live in a shared flat. First of all, living with strangers, no thank you! And even if I’d know the people, I love my freedom and I have have that at home with my parents. In a shared flat you have to compromise a lot and I’m just not the type for that. Since I didn’t have a serious boyfriend during Uni and especially after I finished my degree, moving out wasn’t an option. Having two people paying a rent makes it much easier, but I had no one to move into with. I love my friends, but I couldn’t live with them.

When I started my job I had to ask myself one question: Moving out or buying a car. Rents are really expensive around here, so I wasn’t looking for something and the car just made so much more sense. I don’t have to ask mum or dad for their car anymore and to get to school, it’s just easier to have a car. My school is up on a mountain and by public transport it woud take my 50 minutes, sometimes even more. By car I have 10 – 15 minutes. Buying the car meant that I don’t have any money for rent. I’m now paying my parents a small monthly „rent“ and also an amount for the car each month, because I didn’t have enough money for it, at the beginning.

Living at home has a lot of advantages. First of all, I have people I love around me and they are always there for me. Of course they can get annoying from time to time, but I have my own space and my freedom. I spend my time in my room and our house is big enough for us to have enough space. My brother still lives at home as well and he’s been earning money since he started his apprenticeship.  At dinner and lunch I have people sitting at the table as well and it gives us a great chance to exchange things and talk about our days. It is definitely also nice to have someone cook you dinner, when you get home and also someone doing your washing. Don’t get me wrong, I want to be independent and that’s why I cook as well and do as much housework as possible.

As I said, I’m NEVER alone and I’m really grateful for that.

For everyone the situation is different and I think as long as you are happy everything is fine. I’m happy with my situation and I think that’s the most important thing.

I adored Ella’s Pieces of You and was really excited about this one. She got me hooked with her writing immediately, a wonderful story in several ways.

The story follows Molly. When it starts she is diagnosed with a life changing illness. At first she doesn’t tell anyone. Only after a while she tells her husband Sam. He is very practical about it and wants to help her. Sam however, burries himself in work and is suddenly embarrassed by things that happen because of the illness.

Thank god, she has Ed. Her teenage crush and very good friend now. A lot has happened in the past and every second chapter we got to read about that. WHat happened between her and Ed in the past, because they clearly have feelings for each other. And why did she marry Sam?!

I think that Ed and Molly had a great chemistry and I loved reading about their past.

It’s not only Molly to tell the sory, but Ed as well. All that happened made them the people they are, somehow never able to be together. Misunderstandings, secrets and other things stopped that.

Ella’s writing is touching, emotional and deep. I liked the switch between now and the past, I felt that the story got even more exciting through that. A wonderful, romantic, poignant and moving story!!!

So, I actually got an email saying Jenny from Jenny in Neverland put up a new post and like always I opened it and started reading. After more and more questions I thought: I wanna do this, this looks like fun! At the end oft he post I saw that she actually tagged me ;) Jenny has given me 11 random questions to answer and I will then add my own questions by the end of my post for you guys to answer. Hope you enjoy.

1. If you could have a dinner party with 4 famous people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

Ok, first of all I’d pick Tyler Seguin. He’s my fave hockey player and I’d love to talkt o him and ask homa ton of questions ;)

Then Joanne K. Rowling, I don’t think I have to explain this one ;)

I’d also pick Aaron Tveit, he’s a great actor and singer and it’d be fab to talkt o him, even sing a song with him.

Last but not least Emma Watson. I think she is a fabulous actress and I’d love to get to know her better.

2. 3 items you never, ever leave the house without?

Keys, phone and little bag (rescue spray, make up stuff).

3. If you were a mythical creature, what would you be and why?

A fairy, I’d love tob e able to fly around, use my magic and maybe spy on people, because I’m so tiny. A mermaid would be fun as well, it would be great to swim around in the sea.

4. What’s your all-time favourite book and why? 

You know that is is an impossibe question for me right?! I won’t say Harry Potter, cause that would just be too obvious. I’m going witb The Definition of Icing by Aven Ellis, this book is UNIQUE; MAGICAL and just AMAZING!!!

5. What is your most treasured possession? Is there a story behind it?

Probably all my Harry potter books and my signed copy of Connectivity by Aven Ellis, I just love this woman!

6. When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

The first thing I wanted tob e was a teachers, so here I am now ;) In between I wanted tob e a translator, singer/actress or something connected to traveling.

7. What is one of your all-time favourite quotes? What does it mean to you?

“Don't wait for the storm to pass, learn to dance in the rain.”

This quote talks about taking risks and being brave. Sometimes in life it is good to take a risk and be courageous, to experience new and life-changing things.

8. Do you have any weird talents that people might not know you can do?

Uhm, I don’t thjink so. I think you all know about my talents. I’m really good at baking, but I wouldn’t call it a talent.

9. All-time favourite Disney character? (If you don’t like Disney, all-time favourite character in general?)

I’m getting away from Disney now (sorry Jenny), but I have to go with Hermione Granger. She is great!

10. Who is your idol/hero? Who do you look up to? Can be famous or not.

Gotta go with my mum here. She is a wonderful person and mum, kind, very talented and made me the person I am today. She also introduced me to music and I’m very grateful for that.

11. If you could tell your 10 year-old self ONE thing, what would it be?

Be yourself and don’t get discourage by rejections, get up again and fight for what you want.
