Harry Potter vs Charmed Magic

Big Harry Potter Fan: check
Big Charmed Fan: check

What do both oft hem have in common?! MAGIC! Yes I know it’s a different kind of magic and the world have more contrasts than similarities. Here they are.

So the first difference that comes to mind is that all the wizards in Harry Potter use wands. There are no wands in Charmed. The witches or demons have active powers like telekinesis, freezing or orbing (withelighters mostly). Phoebe has the power of premonitions, I guess that’s a similarity between the two worlds, but Phoebe has to touch things, in Harry Potter they use tea leaves, crystal balls or other things.

The evil in the Charmed world are warlocks, demons or the Triade. In Harry Potter it’s Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

There is a school of magic in Charmed, but it’s nothing like Hogwarts.

They brew potions in Charmed, mostly to help their spells vanquishing demons. In Harry Potter as we all know potions is a subject and when you drink them, something happens.

In Charmed they write their own spells, these spells are very powerful, they rime and are quote long, in comparison with the Harry Potter ones. In Harry Potter they are like one or two words and you usually need a wand.

Quidditch is a big sport in flying brooms in Harry Potter. Some witches in Charmed have the power to fly or should I rather say levitation.

The Charmed ones have to book of shadows with spells, in Harry Potter they are not collected in one book, they students learn them in different subjects at school.

Empathy allows witches in Charmed feel what others feel. I guess something similar in the Harry Potter world would be occlumency.

In Charmed you have all kinds of creatures: Fairys, trolls, banshees, grimlocks, warlocks, vampires, cupids, leprechauns or goblins. That’s also the case in Harry Potter, there are giants, trolls, dementors or werewolves.

The witches in Charmed have whitelighters to protect them. That’s something that doesn’t really exists in Harry Potter, expect for the protection with certain objects. Whitelighters have the powers to heal, in Harry Potter we have the tear of a phoenix.

Speaking of objects, both in Charmed and Harry Potter there are magical objects.

There are ghosts in both worlds, but in Charmed they are mostly only seen as soon as a person dies or when they need help from their grandmother. In Harry Potter certain people become ghosts and are part of the story, but that doesn’t happen with everyone who dies.

Another thing that comes to mind is the magical community in Harry Potter, there are even these only magical places like Hogsmead or Diagon Alley. In Charmed there is not really something like that. the magical community exists in Charmed, but it's more hidden. They live as normal people or in the underworld. And some are there, but can't be seen, like fairies.

In Harry Potter there is a ministry of magic and there are a ton of magical jobs. Phoebe, Piper and Paige all have normal jobs.

Let’s talk time traveling, it’s happened several times in Charmed, to the past or the future, my fave example is Chris Halliwell J. In Harry Potter we have the time turner, which brings you back several hours, but you’re not allowed to be seen. If you have read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, you might know another way as well.

There are so many things, I’m sure I haven’t mentioned them all, but I’m stopping here. It’s safe to say that I like both kinds of magic.

TV Series I Miss

I’m a huge TV series junkie!!! I love catching up with current series like Pretty Little Liars or The Vampire Diaries, but what I love more is re-watching some that are not on anymore. I think I’m still not over the fact that they ended, here are my faves and I miss them badly, every day.

One Tree Hill – My ultimate favourite!!!! I think this will stay my fave forever, I loved it so much!!! The setting, the charcaters, basketball, fashion design, singing and the whole story behind it. Naley is the best couple ever and I also adore Brooke and Julian as well as Quinn and Clay. And all the kids... God, I could go on and on here, I was addicted to the series and maybe also James Lafferty.

Charmed The Halliwell Sisters!!!! I was so addicted to this one and a big fan of especially Phoebe and Piper and then later Chris Halliwell. I loved everything surrounded by magic and their powers and it was not only action and magic all the time, there was a real storyline for the sisters behind it as well. God, how I miss them. I didn’t really like the first three seasons (not a Prue fan), but I LOVE the other seasons even more, especially season 6.

Full House – Do I need to say more here?! I couldn’t get enough of this series, the Olsen twins were so cute in it and I LOVE uncle Jesse. And there will be a Spin-Off series called Fuller House like this month!!!!!

The OC – OC California is a series I’ve watched with my best friend when we were teenagers. We used to make OC marathons, I really enjoyed this series and it was over way to fast. I didn’t always like what happened in it, but oh well and the location was just beautiful.

Friends – God, how I loved this sitcom!!! HILARIOUS and with some fab actors and actresses. It’s always great re-watching this one.

Hart of Dixie – Zoe Hart and her adventures!! I loved her as a character and Rachel Bilson did such a great job. I was so sad, when it got cancelled last year, because I felt that there was much more in store for all the characters. They were an incrediable bunch, each and every single one of them special and unique. Awwww, Bluebell <3.

Gossip Girl – Yes, Gossip Girl, even if it is a bit too much and over the top! I loved seing New York from so many angles! The actors and actresses are great. I would have loved to also see what happened between the last episode and the epilogue.

Gilmore Girls - Mother and daughter, always so much fun! Been re-watching it and I fell in love with the series again. Rory and Lorelei are great to follow around and the storyline was always so diverse and unique. I just love Lorelei and Luke together ;) Revival this year!!!! I'm so excited abut this!

Do you also miss some TV series? If yes, which ones?!

My favourite TV Series

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I love watching TV series, I really do. Not as much as reading and blogging, but it is so much fun and a great change from everyday life. When I was younger I watched them all in german of course, but now I hate doing that, because the voices sound strange and the characters don’t seem real, so only English for me. I like a lot of TV series, so I had to limit myself for today, six it is (I wanted to do my Top 5, but I couldn't), let me tell you: It was really hard, but here they are.

One Tree Hill
That’s be far my favourite one and it will always be. I have all the nine seasons at home and I watch them over and over again. The characters are great and I love the actors, especially James Lafferty ;) There was also a lot of music included in the storyline, which I really enjoyed. Nathan and Haley are an amazing couple and Jamie, so adorable. I can’t tell you how much I love this series. Brooke and Julian are so cute together and to be honest I wasn't a big fan of Lucas and Peyton and I was glad when Quinn and Clay came along. AWESOME series!!!

SMASH
This is the adult version of Glee and it’s amazing. The songs are great and I instantly liked the storyline. There are such amazing and talented actors involved, especially Jeremy Jordan and Katharine McPhee. It’s about a Marlyn Monroe musical which is developing and they’re lookng fort he cast. In the second season it gets competition of a new Musical: Hit List. I wish Hit List could be a real musical, the songs are absolutely brilliant. A TV series full of music, love, friendship and drama.

Gossip Girl

A TV series with a lot of drama and adventures. I always watched it with so much pleasure and curiosity. A lot of great ideas which were included in the storylines and wonderful and fresh actors. It was never boring or dull and I loved that it was set in New York. I really want to go there now.

 Grey’s Anatomy
The only doctor’s series I watch and I love it. It’s so much fun and every character has an interesting story to follow. They all interact and still have enough place to shine on their own and I really admire that. A lot of sad things happened in these past seasons and it’s still a new episode every time. I’m really curious what the future holds fort he series. Oh and Derek and Meredith are so cute together.

Charmed

I love love love this series. I was gripped with the three sisters from the start and especially when Paige came along, I didn’t really like Prue (don’t ask me why). The 6th season is my favourite, because Drew Fuller is awesome. Every single episode was special and of course magigal, not only magical in the obvious way, but also with the ideas fort he storyline and the brilliant acting.

Hart of Dixie

I recently discovered this wonderful TV series and I am so addicted. The cast is awesome and the plot is funny, dramatic, real, vivid and fascinating. It's always full of surprises and set in a beautiful place. I'm finished with season 1 soon, can't wait for more!!!
