Things I didn’t like in the Harry Potter movies

Not too long ago I wrote a post abut things I didn’t like in the Harry Potter storyline, read it here:

I said there already that I don’t want to change anything about it and I’m really happy the way it was written, it’s J.K. Rowling’s story and plot and that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

The movies are a bit of a different thing though and I think a lot of you will agree with me. We all read the books first and then watched the movies. To not make the movies to long things were changed and scratched and yes, I’m not happy about certain things in the movies. Here the are:

-       Harry’s and Lily’s eyes: Harry has green eyes like his mother. This is a very important fact in the book! In the movies neither Harry nor his mother have green eyes. NO-GO!

-       Dobby/Winky: There were no Dobby and Winky in 4th movie, which is a shame. The scenes with them in the kitchen are adorable and on top oft hat: Dobby helps Harry with the second task.

-       Dragons in the first task: In the movie the hint to go out with Hagrid before the first task comes from Ron, but actually it was Hagrid asking Harry to come see him.

-       Ginny’s and Harry’s first kiss: It happened after the deciding Quidditch game!!! Not in the room of requirements. Ginny wasn’t even helping him hide the book oft he half blood prince.

-       Peeves, Ludo Bagman: Nowhere to be seen in the movies.

-       Time travel: In the book it’s clear that interactions with their own selves are a no-go, but why is Hermione throwing rocks at themselves?!

-       Potions challenge in the philosopher’s stone: Hermione gains 50 points for Gryffindor through that and it’s vital in the storyline, not happening in the movie though.

-       Ron and Hermione: So they kiss after they destroy a Horcrux in the chamber of secrets?! In the book their relationship developed nicely.

-       The Weasley house attack: This only happens in the 6th movies, wheer Bellatrix and Greyback attack the Weasley house, IT’S NOT IN THE BOOK!!!!
-    Harry asking Cho to the yule ball: In the movie they are in the owlery! It did NOT happen this way!

There are some more things, but these things disturbed me most! How about you, was there something you didn’t like about the movies?

My Life in Movies Tag!

1)    First Steps: The first film you remember seeing as a kid.

Hmmm, that’s a very difficult one, i can’t say for sure. Among the first ones were for sure: The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Pinocchio, and Pippi Longstocking movies.

2)    Teenage crush: Which actor/actress did you have a crush on?

That’s easy, I fell in love with Daniel Radcliffe in the first Harry Potter movie and also really adored him in the second one. Then I switched to Tom Felton ;) Don’t ask me why though.

3)    Bad Choices, Good Outcome: A movie you watched and ended up enjoying, even though you wanted to hate it.

The Lord of the Rings. I was never really interested in the series, it didn’t sound like my cup of tea, but I loved these movies, still do.

4)    First Date: When you went on a first date what movie did you see?

First Dates and movies don’t really match for me, never did it.

5)    Home Comforts: What movie reminds you of time with your family?

I remember watching The Parent Trap together as a family, that was a lot of fun and I still think of from time to time. Also: Mrs Doubtfire, we watched that one together as well, several times.

6)    First Heartbreak: What movie really upset you or hit you more than you thought?

Hmmm, that’s another toughie. I pretty sure I cried through A Walk to Remember, such an emotional movie, I loved it, but it’s really sad.

7)    Leaving home: What movie was the first you watched without your family?

Hmmm, I think probably Pirates oft he Caribbean, I’m not sure though.

8)    Good Times: What movie do you watch most and why?

Easy, the Harry Potter series!

9)    Learn a new language: What is your favourite non-English language movie?

German is my mother tongue, so I watch a lot of German movies. I have also watched some French ones and some Italian ones. My favourite is Les Choristes, I adore that one.

10) Can't leave the sofa: What series on TV got you hooked?

I think you goes will be hear for a while, I’m addicted to TV series. My absolute fave is One Tree Hill! Others include: Charmed, The Vampire Diaries, Hart of Dixie, Glee, Smash, Gossip Girl, Suits, Gilmore Girls, The OC, Full(er) House etc.

11) Sick day: What movie do you watch if you don't feel well to cheer you up?

Here I go with rom-coms all the way. Raise Your Voice for example, a Hallmark movie, Love Actually or a Bridget Jones movie.

12) Looking to the future: What movies are you looking forward to seeing?

The next ones oft he Fantastic Beasts series, finally watching Beauty and the Beast and Pitch Perfect 3.

13) If only: What old movie do you want to see re-made?

Some of the Disney movies would be fab. The Sound of Music, Singing in the Rain or some other musical movies.

14) End of the road: What 3 films do you think you think will always enjoy watching?

Only three?! That’s going to be hard.

Movie Review - The Danish Girl

The Danish Girl is a 2015 British biographical drama film directed by Tom Hooper, based on the 2000 fictional novel of the same name by David Ebershoff and loosely inspired by the lives of Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. The film stars Eddie Redmayne as Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of sex reassignment surgery, Alicia Vikander as Gerda Wegener, Matthias Schoenaerts as Hans Axgil, and Ben Whishaw as Henrik.

My opinion

As a big fan of Eddie Redmayne this film was a must for me. I watched the trailer several times before going and couldn’t wait to see it.

The movie touches a sensitive and delicate topic. Lili Elbe or rather Einar Wegner is born as a man, but inside feels he’s a woman. Things that have happened in his childhood show clear signs and when his wife Gerda uses him as a female model, Lili is born again. The movie iss et in the 20s, so you can imagine that it was a never heard of topic back then.

Einar starts dressing up as Lili and goes to events as her. He feels that something is wrong with him and wants to change it. The doctors however, all say that is crazy, mental and schizophrenic.

Through all this he always had his wife Gerda by his side. Her love is beyond anything you can imagine. It must have been so hard for her, but she stuck by his side.

After a long time they finally find a doctor and Einar/Lili agrees to be operated into a woman.

Both main actors did an incredible job. Eddie Redmayne was an amazing woman. His movements and emotions were spot on. His up for an Oscar again, so fingers crossed. Alicia Vikander is a very talented actress. The feelings of her character came across beautifully.

There were some incredibly captured pictures in this movies, whether it’s from characters or sights. It kind of brought the viewer closer to the story. The Danish Girl is a very touching, emotional and deep movie, full of love, drama and tears.

I would definitely recommend this movie. It’s special and unique.
