Proposing to Preston – by Katy Regnery + GIVEAWAY!

Original Cover
My own copy

The blurb:

Proposing to Preston is the second of four books about the Philadelphia-based, wildly-handsome Winslow brothers who are all on the look-out for love.

(Except Brooks... he's probably sailing around the world with Skye by now. And Cameron, who's having too much fun sparring with Margaret. And Christopher, who's only on the look-out for a congressional seat and absolutely. nothing. else.)

Preston Winslow has a heart as open as the sky and room in his life for someone special. When he falls in love with Broadway actress, Elise Klassan, he holds nothing back.

Elise, who has made tremendous sacrifices to forward her career, is swept off her feet by handsome, charming Preston...but the stage has been her first love for so many years, she doesn't know if there's room for Preston in her life. When the day comes that she must choose between her ambition and her heart, she profoundly hurts the one man who could have made her happy.

Two years later, Elise has become a world-famous actress and Preston is a very successful lawyer. But fame has not equaled happiness for Elise, and Preston is much too bitter and cynical to ever consider falling in love again.

Is it possible that the only person who can mend Preston's heart is the one who originally broke it? Only if Elise can figure out a way to make him believe in love all over again.

Time for the next Winslow brothers installement, after Brooks it was Preston’s turn now. Katy is a wonderful author, her series are great and I love that this one is connected to her previous series – the English Brothers. The blurb of this book sounded really intriguing and it was more than I ever hoped for.

The story starts two years back in New York. Preston Winslow, soon to be lawyer, goes to see a show off-off Broadway and falls in love with actress Elise. They fall for each other pretty hard and suddenly there is an opportunity for Elise to get to Broadway and be on stage next to Hollywood stars, at the same time she loses her apartment and gets to know Preston. Their love is sweet, deep and passionate (but Elise is a virgin) and Preston is the perfect boyfriend, by her side and helping her. Without even thinking she lives with him and becomes a great star on Broadway. Preston askes the question soon, but soon after Elise is offered a great movie deal and has to make a big decision.

Elise, is an ambitious actress and her biggest dream is to be a famous Broadway actress. Her career is important to her and she goes for it. I loved having that aspect in the story, I’m a big Broadway and West End fan, Musicals are part of my life, so it was amazing reading about this business.

Before I even started reading the book, I saw that the first few chapters were set in the past and the other half was set in the present. This scared me a little bit, especially when I saw what Elise and Preston had. Their relationship might moved a little fast, but they had a true connection and that came across beautifully in the writing.

Two years later… Elise is a world famous actress and a movie deal brings her to Philly, Preston’s home. Preston is so shocked when he sees her again at the engagement party of his sister!!! He doesn’t want to talk to her. The story gets very emotional here, in several ways and I just couldn’t put it down. The engagement party was great, because I was able to catch up with some familiar characters; I just adore connection between books/series.

Will their love get a second chance?! If you wanna know you have to read the book yourself, but let me tell you that it is a dramatic roller-coaster ride with lots of memorable and passionate scenes.

Katy just has a wonderful voice, lines the characters out really well and brings a lot of feelings and authentic emotions into a story! I can’t wait for the next Winslow brother!!!

Never Let You Go – by Katy Regnery

My own copy
Original Cover

The blurb:

In this modern retelling of “Hansel and Gretel,” 13-year-old foster children, Holden and Griselda, escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety but the other is left behind.

Ten years later, Griselda’s boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match where her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring.

Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage and a cache of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the whitewater of the Shenandoah.

Never Let You Go is a story of fear and hope, defeat and survival, and two people - once profoundly broken – who discover that love is the only thing that can make them whole again.

This is a standalone novel inspired by Hansel & Gretel. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to profanity, scenes of physical abuse and very strong sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. (Note: children are not sexually abused in this book.)

For June and July 2015, 25% of all gross royalties will be donated to the Elizabeth Smart Foundation.

My Opinion:

Katy Regnery is a wonderful and very talented author. Never Let You Go is her second standalone novel part of her a modern fairytale collection.
This story is based on Hansel and Gretel. It follows Griselda and Holden, they have been in foster care together many years ago. They went through a very difficult time back then and suddenly they went their separate ways. They were kidnapped and Griselda is able to run away, but she left him behind. And Holden thinks she is dead…

Now, 10 years later, their paths cross again. Grisela’s boyfriend Jonah drags her to a flight club and there he is: Holden. He gets hurt in the fight and we she goes to see him, they both think they must be dreaming. A friend gives them the opportunity to get away.

Their chemistry is deep, intense, passionate and very emotional. Their connection is there again immediately and their feelings just grow more and more. They let go and just follow their hearts. We learn a lot about their past and that is really shocking, heart breaking and touching.
Their love scenes are steamy, intense, passionate, fiery and heated.

I loved how they both just let go of everything and follow their hearts, but there are his girlfriend Gemma and her kind-of ex Jonah. It gets worse, when Gemma has news for Holden, news affecting his future.

The story gets even more intense and dramatic here and Griselda makes a hard decision. Back home Jonah comes to hunt her and …

It’s wonderful to see that both of them are willing to fight and want a future together. Even if it’s not possible at the moment, they hold on to their love, not knowing what will be in a few months. They need each other in life, it’s what makes them complete and whole, what healed them in the first place. Going through ups and downs and lots of stony paths, they fight and they want to make it happen. Read this beautiful and epic tale, to find out what the future had to hold for them.

The point of view is alternating between Holden and Griselda, which give a great insight in both their heads.

This is truly a marvellous modern fairytale, taking you on a roller-coaster ride of emotions and getting you hooked immediately.

Excerpt from Never Let You Go

This girl. Everything about this girl made him want, made him long, made him yearn to change his life, start his life, finally live his life after a decade of going through the motions. He wanted to get a better job to take care of her. He wanted to stop fighting because she disapproved of it. He wanted enough money to have every tally mark lasered from his arm. He wanted some sort of guarantee that she’d never, ever leave him again. And he wanted all of it now. Yesterday. Ten years ago, and every day since.
Standing up slowly, he let his body settle into an upright position before taking his time crossing the hall to the bathroom and then heading out into the common room.
She stood at the stove with her back to him, her feet bare, her hair in a ponytail, the mouthwatering smell of fried chicken filling the entire cabin with goodness. Holden leaned against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest, a grin taking over his face as he watched her.
“It’s just the thought of you—the very thought of you, my love,” she sang, using a fork to transfer a golden leg to a paper towel–covered plate.
As she reached forward to turn off the stove, some of the leftover grease in the frying pan spat up at her and burned her wrist.
“Ow!” she yelped. “Damn it!”
With a sudden rush of adrenaline, Holden crossed the kitchen in two strides. He turned on the faucet and grabbed her arm to thrust her wrist under the cold stream. He held it there, wincing at the red blotch developing on her white skin. When he lifted his eyes to hers, she was staring at him with a surprised, curious expression.
“It’s just a little burn.”
He shrugged, still holding her arm, staring down at the burn.
“You were asleep,” she said.
“You were singing.”
“Too loud?”
“No.”
“You remember that song?”
“I remember.”
He slid his palm down her arm to cradle her wrist from below.
“The stove’s still on,” she said.
Without dropping her hand, he took a step closer to her, reached around her waist with his free hand, and flicked the burner off.
“I made fried chicken,” she said softly, her cheeks flushed.
“I can smell it.”
“You like fried chicken. I mean . . . you must have mentioned it to me a hundred times when we were—”
“It’s still my favorite.”
They were both silent for a few seconds, and Holden knew he should drop her hand and step away from her, but he couldn’t. She’d hurt herself doing something kind for him, and it just about shredded his heart.
Just another moment, he told himself. A few more seconds touching her and then I’ll move away.
“Sorry about the singing,” she whispered, unmoving, her breath kissing his throat.
He jerked his neck to face her, his thumb curling into her palm, his eyes searching hers for mercy.
“I loved it,” he murmured.
She stepped forward, closing the distance between them, her lips parting, her breasts grazing his chest through his T-shirt as she stared up at him.
“Holden, I . . .”
Every breath she took seemed to draw him closer to her, as if she was breathing him, not air. He leaned forward, into her, his free hand reaching for hers.
“Griselda . . .”
Her eyes, dark blue and churning, flicked to his lips, lingered there, then slid back up his face and seized his.
His self-control snapped.
After all, he was only human.
