My Sisters and Me - by Lisa Dickenson

Original Cover
My own copy

The blurb:

They're fixing up their childhood home. It's going to get messy.

When Willow Lake asks her daughters for help renovating the family home, each has a reason to hesitate about returning to Maplewood . . .

For quiet and bookish Emmy going back to the town that ridiculed her fills her with dread.

The youngest Noelle is perfectly comfortable in herself now, but once wanted to fit in so badly that she walked away from her first love. A first love who still lives in Maplewood.

And outspoken Rae is painfully aware of how much the townspeople hurt her little sisters growing up. She didn't protect them then, but there's no way she'll let history repeat itself.

The sisters agree to go home and make the best of it. After all if they've changed over the years, it's possible the townspeople have too . . . isn't it?

My Opinion:

The three Lake sisters, Rae, Emmy and Noelle, find themselves back in their hometown of Maplewood, where they are fixing up their childhood home. Their memories practically come back to haunt them and that creates an exciting story.

Rae is an opera singer and has a wonderful husband. Contrary to the past, she is now there for her sisters. Emmy is a successful scientist. It’s hard for her to go back to Maplewood, where she was bullied as a child, but there is Jared ;). Noelle finally feels comfortable with who she is. Now, she is about to see her first love again…

I loved the bond the three sisters had, Lisa Dickenson captured that beautifully. They are all really passionate about their jobs, but also take the time to fix up their family home. It helps them moving closer again and it’s fab to see how they protect each other. I was happy that there were Jared and Rae’s husband … to bring some male strength to the novel. I loved them both, their energy, their passion, their love.

Of course there are also some other characters, who play an important part in the plot, like Jenny, Noelle’s first love, or mayor Gabby, Rae’s friend.

The story is about facing your fears, family, friendship and love. I expected more laughs, but I still really enjoyed this book. I feel like we are not done with the sisters yet, a sequel would be fab!

A light-hearted and fun novel, with an exciting storyline. Something was missing for me, but it’s still a fab story!
